In an interview recently, Charlize Theron got a little mixed up with her geography when she repeatedly confused Budapest, the capital of Hungary for Istanbul, the largest city in Turkey.

The blonde Oscar winner talked passionately about visiting Budapest and mentioned the Hungarian capital three times by name in an interview.

Except she meant the Turkish city of Istanbul, which she visited with her boyfriend actor Stuart Townsend while the pair “backpacked” around the world.

The 32-year-old South African actress said: “We went to Turkey. When we got over there, we rented a car and we drove all the way to Budapest. By the time we got to Budapest it was like the Cannes Film Festival, I’d never seen anything like it.” (source)

Honestly, I don’t see what the problem is. She’s not a teacher, she’s a hot blond who likes to show her tits. That’s what hot blonds do. When you see Charlize Theron in movie you expect her to pull her top off and dance around not expound on the fall of the Byzantine empire and rise of the Ottoman Turks. Istanbul or Constantinople? It’s nobody’s business but the Turks.

Smartypants update: Big props to eagle-eyed Hertog Jan for catching my own geography blunder. I originally had Istanbul as the capital of Turkey, when everyone who knows their Asia Minor knows the capital is actually Ankara.  Don’t smuggle hash kids!

He was noticeably absent from the Aeon Flux star’s side at last Sunday’s Oscars and the Baftas the week before.

Hollywood’s rumour mill went into overdrive. And last night a pal said: “Charlize is free and single again.

“Her relationship with Stuart is well and truly over.”

The reason she stayed with him so long can only be attributed to sheer fright. Stuart Townsend is a ghoul and Charlize Theron is hot South African heat. The two should never try to co-exist. It upsets the order of the universe. Every time they had sex, a unicorn fell from heaven and a 23 puppies died. Cute puppies.
