I recall that people were upset that consumers reacted negatively to the event, boycotting the Chicks’ music, tossing out CDs, etc. and these complainers used the arguement that the chicks’ shouldn’t be punished for exercising freedom of speech.

As is typical with such arguements, the speakers forgot that choosing to what artists one wants to listen could also be construed as “freedom of speech”, although, people seem to forget that all _that_ really means is that the governement isn’t supposed to put you in jail or shoot you just for thinking something… doesn’t mean that people can’t give you the finger afterward. Idiots.

But yeah… death threats are just stupid. Not to mention that if you really wanted to pull something like that off, why announce your intentions? It’s much more effective (and easier to get away with it) if you keep quiet, do the deed, and never tell a sole.
